The Knight is trying to get away from Flowery, so he can't touch them. Instead, he gets a Floradinn to show up, touches them to start a battle the same way you do, then immediately spares the Floradinn, leaving him and the Knight in the battle UI together

and... the damage numbers...

it's not ignoring the damage, it cut the tail of the 9s so they turned into 0s
