For those of you running #linux on a personal machine, how do you handle updates through your equivalent of the Update Manager? Take them all? Take some of them based on what they’re for? Research each one?

I just returned from a trip to a ton of updates for #LinuxMint and just took them all but wondered what others do.

@jmeowmeow oh, huh! Yes, I’ve seen these several times now in different forms. Didn’t realize it was all Taralli. Definitely not my favorite.

In the traveler’s game of “what’s this thing I haven’t seen before and is it delicious in my mouth,” you win some and lose some. This is a definite L. What is it? I have no idea. What is not is: sweet, tasty, or anything other than slightly salty cardboard.

That’s okay, I’ll always have alfajores in Argentina.

Window shutters (if they exist at all) in the US are often non functional and decorative. But shutters are really useful!

The ones on our Airbnb in Roma were clearly regularly used - moved easily, no more dirty than I’d expect. People next door clearly opened and closed theirs each night as well.

So I was surprised when I reached out to close the ones in Firenze to block the morning light, only to discover that they were creaky, filthy, and almost no one nearby was using theirs either!

I’ll be in Roma (Rome), Firenze (Florence), and Sorrento for a couple of weeks at the end of October and beginning of November.

What recommendations do you have, fedi? Particularly interested in quirky sights, amazing food or arts/crafts/textile things.

@valhalla Oooo, this is good - I can use PDF in Calibre-Web (which actually reads PDF pretty well, unlike main Calibre).

I have Kiwix as part of IIAB, so can potentially download ZIMs that include it -- though generally it seems like the options I have are "download big slices of a site", rather than "this specific page". And part of what I'm trying to do is curate a bit rather than hoover up everything on a site.

I would love to find a Creative Commons / Public domain book or pamphlet about knot tying, for example. Anyone know of one?

Or a similar pamphlet or guide about easy methods for water sanitation?

#InternetInABox has content packs I can load about knot tying and water sanitization methods, but it would be a LOT cleaner and nicer for the UI if I could tuck a book in the Calibre-Web portion of the site.

I'm building out an #InternetInABox with books that meet at least one criteria:

1. Fun/interesting to discover
2. Useful if the internet is briefly inaccessible (i.e., a windstorm has taken out power for 1-7 days)
3. Potentially Solarpunk themed

They *must* be creative commons or public domain as well as generally G or PG-13.
