A low-mass analog folding reflector has been developed for use by those lost at sea to alert orbiting radar satellites.
A very clever design, it could be described as an origami electromagnetic flaregun for satellite signalling.
It's foldable, floats, and can be detected by satellites - and it's being developed by local researchers who started with origami prototypes.
