I need a 10” regular taper saw file for 3 ½ ppi, seemingly, and while many places in the area sell Bahco files, none sell that size, and Bahco doesn’t sell direct.
I can’t even find one on Amazon FR. I don’t want to pay shipping fees that are twice the price of the damn file.
Time to look over the border.

I just printed a ‘page’ of tech expository that needlessly blew up to a ridiculous nine double-side sheets with all the useless web elements (links, nav, banner, … ), childish font size, over-expansion of images…
Yes, web is hard, time is short, and printing is trees. And most websites aren’t worth the juice they burn. Sad fact.
Paper is also a fact. Do the right thing.
The distance between each gullet valley(?) in the 3 ½ pitch range is 10 mm. Not exact each time but relatively close and consistent. So that’s what I’ll use to re-notch the new teeth on the heel.
If anyone has other perspectives on the current geometry, I’m all ears because the next step is to start filing. Tomorrow.
End of thread. The prerequisite before and after shots. I’m about to oil them, but you know how that goes.
I wanted to get these cleaned up because I’ll soon be making chisel shelves and didn’t want rusty chisels soiling everything.
Several other chisels I have need similar handle work, but I cleaned their blades months ago. I’ll get back to those (and these) when I start grinding/honing edges.
I’ve a few more firmers to share prep, but first back to the Frankenstein saw.
The fermoir is bathed and cleaned.
You can see right out of the citric bath, before finishing, where the hardened metal (darker) ends, just before the stamped mark.
That chelate comes off easy with a brass brush. Then a little filing to tame the bumps and dings (I introduced some scratches, boo). Then successively 240 (to shallow the little pits), 320, 400 grit.
Ready for a new handle and edge.
Pretty sure ‘Alchrom’ is a portmanteau of Alsace and chrome steel.
I have one rifloir. I always forget about it. It’s pretty coarse, though.
Going with epoxy this time. Hope the quality is good enough. All I have on hand.

This is why, among other reasons, I wish we lived further out with no visibility to house from roadside. If you’ve got that, you are lucky. But communities like mine (effectively urban settings) are easy grounds for these types to cover, and they do regularly. It’s tiring.
