Time to cast off lines and put Cape Town to our rudder as we set sail for Sint Maarten
-
It's been fun, Cape Town!
-
Setting up for a port tack as we get ready to ride the trade winds.
-
(Although we do have to motor for a little ways to find the wind)
-
Yesterday we were busy setting sails, so I only took one photo aloft. Now making way at almost 7 knots with fore and main masts set to the royals.
-
Time to unfurl and set the mizzen t'gallant.
-
Rigging stun sails on fore and main masts means adding new blocks to the booms.
-
Relaxing on the t'gallant yard while reeving in the main mast stun sail gear.
-
There will be time to rest when the reevings done.
-
Had a quiet night watch since there was almost no wind.
-
Absolutely no wind this morning, so we braced the main around and hove to.
-
Another entire watch sitting hove-to, so plenty of time for maintenance and also relaxing on the jib boom.
-
We were visited by pilot whales (not actually whales [cetacean needed])
-
A small squall brought some stronger winds so we are sailing again
-
Sailor Sunday means no maintenance watches and instead time to work on personal projects.
-
-
Stun sails set on the foremast.
-
Chaffing inspections are required every hour for the stun sails.
-
Taking the noon sight requires so many table lookups.
-
Chaffing inspection found significant wear on the fore t'gallant stunsail halyard, so we end over ended it during the night watch.
