I've decided these midis never sounding good is simply for a lack of trying on my part. As it happens, if I pipe them into mollytime (which currently is a monosynth) it makes for some great texture for fucking around with patches. I call this technique "MIDI concrète"

I love the midis from Graal Online. They've literally never sounded good on any sound card I've ever played them on, and I'm not sure they've ever sounded good on any sound card ever I think they were just meant to be legally distinct music. But I was a tween and my parents didn't believe in their kids being literate in pop culture so that + the random classical music cassette and cd was just my music collection for a while.
