On installing debian

Disk partition

1. All files in one partition
2. Seperate /home portion
3. Seperate /home, /var and /tmp

@MelissaBearTrix If you've got one disk and its only you using it, may as well put everything on the one partition. Multiple partitions are good for multiple disks and for coralling away users and/or apps that might like to fill their partition.

@troglobit @arch @MelissaBearTrix I'd agree, especially if you're just starting. Things are just plain easier on one partition.

For advanced users, especially if they distro hop, the advantage of /home on its own partition is the whole OS can be changed while keeping /home safely separated. They can install a new OS version and just set home to map to that partition without deleting all the data.

Either way, solid backup strategies are your friend for OS changes and HD failure.
