It was very hot last night and I couldn't sleep for a while. The last thought before falling asleep: someone could make a lot of money by inventing a kind of electric blanket that stayed cool, just like a pillow that you have just turned over.
-
@TazPoltorak I know that they make pads with a gel that cools down with pressure (so it has to be under the person sleeping, not above as a blanket), remains cool for a few hours (I've seen 3-4 hours mentioned) and then needs to remain without pressure on it for some time to recharge (and I expect, release back the heat in the air). They are sold for pets, but I've read of people who have slept on the bigger dog sizes, and I don't think they were all furries (it being on the Fediverse I can't be sure :D ) -
@valhalla sounds like a solution

@TazPoltorak I'm using linen bedding, and that also helps, but not having had to buy linen bedding (it was sitting in my mother's drawers) helped a lot :) -
@valhalla Now, that sounds interesting. I slept on top of a bed over made from bamboo fibers.

@TazPoltorak it has a texture that some people (including my mother) hate, I don't know whether modern linen is smoother.
My experience with bamboo/viscose is that it feels very nicely cool at first (and it's very nicely smooth and silky), but linen is better at keeping cool during the night.
Also, I'm using the linen bedding on top of a cotton mattress, and right now my partner¹ is using a wool mattress, both also help compared to sleeping on plastic.
