I can't seem to record this fucking presentation!
-
@steffo This happened while I was shutting down. Before this a bunch of shit was crashing and freezing and not dying and I don't know what I did other than install pipewire so I could record my screen
edit: and it has timestamps on each line and it is changing a little bit from time to time, which is not kernel panic behavior but something's definitely super broken -
@blake seems like the intel graphics driver is messing something up?
-
@steffo you wouldn't happen to know what a RAM failure looks like by any chance, would you?
-
@blake ohhh integrated graphics with shared memory?
-
@steffo I mean maybe... Hope not, I kinda need that...
-
@blake that's what
[i915]
is -
it's not impossible, seems like something went wrong while the integrated graphics driver tried to allocate RAM to something?
ohh maybe it's not a kernel panic but a kernel bug, perhaps some kind of deadlock?
-
@steffo deadlock sounds like the perfect word to describe it, it completely locked up and wouldn't do anything else but occasionally try again and log the failure (and I could only see the last part).
I saw that it wasn't really doing anything so I force-shutdown'd it. I'm going to have to figure something else out to record my presentation, because apparently my system can't do it... -
@blake what kernel are you on? perhaps a different kernel might help if available on your distro
-
@steffo
uname -a
:Linux projectvela 6.13.5-0-edge #1-Alpine SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sun, 02 Mar 2025 10:11:59 +0000 x86_64 Linux
-
@blake maybe it might be worth trying using the Linux LTS kernel?
not sure, might end up being an useless effort
