This is so true, and so good...I never had a vital necessity for compatibility with old web browsers, but recreational necessities always come up: reading things with my Kindle, posting game screenshots online from my 3DS... and it's always kind of a mess, so I understand this situation very well.
I make sure my websites are at least browsable with literally anything, and even make TLS optional on them instead of forcing it... this is no issue for pure websites, but complex self-hosted platforms (this NodeBB instance, my Pixelfed, and others) are sadly always a problem, with their JavaScript and such. Sigh.
