"The PHP Way of Life"
The #PHP Way of Life Manifesto: what is the essence of PHP, how is it different from other development languages.
-
@laravista Everything this promotes is pretty much the complete opposite of what I espouse.

@ramsey @laravista I think maybe half of it sounds good? Definitely not the arrays stuff, obviously...

@ramsey @laravista I am in the same boat with @ramsey but I agree with the article in the regard that everything we've learned we should put it under a microscope every now and then and consider the alternatives and see if the tools we have chosen hold up under scrutiny. I don't like the duality narative the article tries to fabricate. As a dev it is usually "right tool for the job at this moment" not "the sacred way" vs "the evil twisted way".

@sysedit @laravista No "sacred vs evil". Quite the opposite, actually. It’s not about polarizing practices, it’s about recognizing there’s no such thing as an absolute best practice. What works for a company with 800 developers rarely applies directly to a 3-person startup.
For sure, OOP is great, that’s not the point. But when it’s misused, with so many layers of indirection that you can’t follow the execution flow, it becomes a nightmare (like any practice when misapplied). -
I am looking for a #Tech community about web, what is the best place on the #Fediverse?
-
@laravista I go about it by following a few tags for the technology I am interested in and when I ask a question I make sure I am using only relevant tags and not as many tags as I can think of. Usually there are 1-2 replies but not to every message. I still think the interactions are worthwhile and that we all learn from each other.
