Under feudalism Lords owned Serfs but they were responsible for the well-being of their subjects.
Under our modern system of "free markets all the way up" the Lords still own the Serfs but have replaced that responsibility with the illusion of self determination.
Now we are entering the era of the "Florida Sheriff" in which proletariat shills of the bourgeoisie will celebrate murdering you on your quest for that promised self determination.
