Fellow guitarists, please help me!
My neighbor has a #Fender #Stratocaster (made in Mexico).
Which size are the grub screws at the end of the strings (inside the small holes on the sides)?
I tried a 1 mm Allen key, but it's "huge".
Could it be a 0,70 mm (or a 3/64")?

-
@GustavinoBevilacqua a question from the metric world : why do you say 3/64" and not 1/22" ?
-
@Vive_Levant All the fractions of an inch have power of two divisors. So you only need to multiply or divide by two. But by the time you're using 64ths for precision everyone moves to thousandths. @GustavinoBevilacqua

Imperial is designed around maximizing divisions of denominators. With 64 you have 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32. With 22 you only have 1, 2, and 11. Start with a whole unit and to get more precision you halve the unit over and over. It's easier to mentally math the measurements when you're only x2 or /2 to convert. You can simplify it at the end if you want, but hardware is all made to the powers of two.

@baronvonj @GustavinoBevilacqua yep and I made a mistake quickly dividing 64 in 3x22. My bad.

@GustavinoBevilacqua I don’t have this guitar, but it looks like the standard itty bitty 0.05 hex key. One step smaller than 1/16”. The wrench is so hilariously thin

@GustavinoBevilacqua according to this .5mm is a possibility https://monsterbolts.com/blogs/news/guitar-saddle-height-screws
-
@Vive_Levant well, you're still good to within 1.5 thousandths of an inch :-) @baronvonj @GustavinoBevilacqua

@GustavinoBevilacqua I'm sure the interwebs have provided an answer, but the Mexico ones are usually M3 screws, the US ones #4-40. If the 1mm hex key doesn't work you have the imperial ones and need a 0.5mm key.
I can never tell what size I need so I have a small tray of all the ridiculously tiny hex keys to fish in. -
@GustavinoBevilacqua I take it you are adjusting the string height? How badly does it need a setup?

I don't know what my neighbor is trying to achieve, but it is always a pleasure to see a person who want to go beyond factory setup.

@GustavinoBevilacqua my 2008 Mexican Strat uses a 1 mm hex key, but it looks like the bridge is completely different; I looked it up and _of course_ there's a whole world of different Fender bridges out there https://www.fuzzfaced.net/ponte-stratocaster.html , the one you posted seems like a "2 pivot, 1/16" string spacing", as found on "Classic Player (Made in Mexico)" strats

Thanks!
The 1mm key is too large for the screw, and here the only one I know with smaller keys is the Rolex maintenance… I told my neighbor to visit them just to know the size of the key, so he can buy his own.
-
@GustavinoBevilacqua he may also have some unexpected luck with the multi-bit small screwdrivers sets... I just checked mine and it does have a 1.3 and 0.9 hex bit (probably actually 2 and 3 64th of an inch?)
Also, maybe it's obvious but: did he check his guitar bag? I'm almost certain that my guitar came with the relevant hex keys (now, where did they end up it's an entirely different matter)

The guitar was a second hand one, with no accessories
And the closest Fender reseller is 300 km from here!
