Absent mindedly addressed my wife as 'mate' this morning, which she immediately picked up on.
Somewhat rescued the situation by claiming that we'd all recently had a big discussion on Mastodon about how one's most cherished spouse and the mother of one's children is, by definition, one's mate - and that addressing anyone else thusly is actually the weird and awkward thing.
I think I got away with it, but if you see her just back me up, 'kay?
