my biggest mental/actual roadblock for switching to #FreeBSD is the availability of working bluetooth audio for headset & microphone. i want to buy a thinkcentre with probably an intel ax201/203/211 wi-fi & bt 5 chip and searching the internet for bluetooth audio support with that chipset doesn’t fill me with a lot of hope, but maybe i’m not searching right or maybe i should look at other hardware? i don’t use my pc for much, but video conferencing and music/youtube playback are must-haves.

@jiji Serious suggestion: avoid wireless peripherals. Use cabled devices. Cables _Just Work™️ _, never need charging, never need synching, and are compatible with *everything*.

@lproven @jiji also, please please please don't use wireless microphones for video conferencing

you (generic you) start in front of the computer, everything feels fine, the other people in the conference adjust your volume so that it's balanced with everybody else

and then you move away from the computer, and the audio starts to get glitchy, and harder to understand for people with hearing issues, and it's in the middle of the call, so it's harder to interrupt everybody to let them know that you (that's me) can't understand anymore, and you (iep, still me) just get excluded from the call

(unless you use a wireless microphone and then not move, but then there isn't as big a need to avoid wires)

@valhalla i and my partner use wireless microphones every single day to communicate and range only becomes an issue after being multiple meters away from the device. i and other people use different wireless headsets at work and they are also fine. no adjustment ever needed. 99.9% of mic issues i encounter as it support are due to mic position and system settings and independent of wireless or not.

@jiji @lproven the one above is my experience in various calls, I don't know how far from the device the people using wireless mics go, but it is a significant accessibility problem.
