    Not sure if the week we have days with "extreme UV" warnings in the weather report is the best or worst to be trialing new sunscreen, but I'm really out of everything else at this point.

      Not sure if the week we have days with "extreme UV" warnings in the weather report is the best or worst to be trialing new sunscreen, but I'm really out of everything else at this point.

      So far the cheapest (which still isn't cheap, but grocery outlet didn't have my preferred stuff which is Banana Boat Kids Mineral spf 50+) is a spray on "hybrid" (mineral + chemical) from "seaweed bath co" that I think is kind of greasy and has a weird choice of smell (there wasn't a fragrance free option this is the spf 60 which came in "vanilla mist"). The smell doesn't seem to linger though, so could be worse? ($10 for 177 mL)

      Two different sticks
      Neutrogena's Purescreen Mineral Beach Defense (mineral, spf 50): feels greasy on my face but not my hands, I think that's just because I haven't washed my face and I'm using it after work. I think this might be scented, and I'm not a huge fan of the smell, but the scent is sort of light so it's bearable. Decent size, price was ok-ish for a stick. Seems to be softer than my old brand and I might go through it faster in that case. ($10 for 42 g)

      Alba Botanica's Hawaiian sunstick (hybrid, spf 30): despite the name this is fragrance free and doesn't smell like tropical flowers. Price is higher than the Neutrogena one, but the stick is more compact and will fit my bag better. I think I like it better, but haven't tried it enough to be sure yet. Might be somewhere between the Neutrogena & my old stuff in firmness. ($4 for 14 g)

      The old stick which seemed to last a while is All Good's mineral spf 30, which I think cost about what the alba botanic costs (though it is 17 g) and had the added enjoyment factor of looking identical to their mineral lip balms (which I use) except embiggened.

        @SRLevine

        For welders UVs are classified as "occupational hazard", so you can take a look in the welding aisle, too.

        Some infos from OSHA, while they are still online:
