And, in other sewing news. I now have cotton voile for the petticoat I don't necessarily super need but want to make, some extremely nice fine white linen for a blouse (ditto), the terrible print fabric that is probably going to become a shirt of some description eventually... And some lining for a hat. Only the hat is something I could just start making, without thinking too much, everything else requires plans, design and/or maths. And my brain, it's not very awake yet.
-
Do also need to iron all of them, but... Also doesn't require much brain so might be the one thing I can for sure accomplish.
Haven't decided which era blouse I want the linen to be, but I know it has to have vertical tucks for decoration. There's just so many styles one could go for.
At least the petticoat only requires maths!

Could do yet another sort of Edwardian blouse, but I could also make one from a fabric that isn't so fine. And while I know I'm not going to make this because I'd never wear it, I was looking at the bizarre 1898 fashions last night and now I have these monstrosities in my brain. And some elements of them are quite fun...

@sinituulia Without the impossibly tiny waists, yes, those giant puff sleeves, high ruffled collars, and big romantic frills WERE what we were wearing in the 80s and we thought were the bee’s knees! I also had a very gelled hairdo with a LOT of floppy fringe, I think. And my best friend’s wedding dress - oh, the ruffles, the ruffles! Could we have fitted any more ruffles on? Only if we took off some of the bows…
-
@caity Yes! Exactly!

@sinituulia (Eventually I will unearth the photos at my mother’s house and find pics of me looking like this… the horror, the horror!
)

@caity Like. I mean. A lot of the eighties stuff is sort of a look? Sure, they look strange to the modern eye when removed from context, but I swear to the gods some of the stuff the youths today choose to be seen in...
Part of the problem I think, was that not only was it excessive and joyful, but also made from the worst possible fabrics known to man at the time! And any photo taken with cameras and film at the time has serious issues with faithful colour reproduction. So even if it might have looked quite nice in person, it felt terrible and looks strange in photos!

@caity (Not me defending the 1980s, I may need more coffee)

@sinituulia @caity until you mentioned the fabric I wasn't 100% sure which 80s you were talking about :D
