I was drinking my afternoon tea
my mother called us both with some urgency, because an electrical device was making a suspicious noise. it was suspicious, and the device was also getting warm.
said device:
a) is no longer in use and was supposed to have been disconnected;
b) thankfully was connected via a plug;
c) was one out of four, at each end of the Jefferies tubes in her house.Diego disconnected the first one, the one that was having problems, then as the smallest person I volunteered to crawl to disconnect the one at the other end.
I had just finished doing so, and the bell rung for a delivery of a few boxes of fruit preserve (outside, in the sun).
I got back to my mother's home to see that they had just disconnected the third device, and were struggling to try to open the other end of the crawlway. I volunteer to crawl in that one too.
I got to the end, and found a huge monster¹ defending the plug.
I managed to distract the monster, disconnect the plug, run out, but not without being touched by the secretions of said monster.
This evening we have clean sheets in the bed
I can take a second shower just before sleep, even if I have already taken one earlier, and usually I try not to, right?
¹ it may have been a small spider with long, thin legs

Stavo bevendo il té del pomeriggio.
Mia madre ci ha chiamati con una certa urgenza, perché un aggeggio elettrico stava facendo dei rumori sospetti. Erano, sospetti, e l'aggeggio si stava anche scaldando.
Quell'aggeggio:
a) non è più in uso, e avrebbe dovuto essere scollegato;
b) per fortuna era attaccato alla corrente tramite una spina;
c) era uno su quattro, alle estremità dei tubi di Jefferies della casa.Diego ha scollegato quello che stava dando problemi, dopodiché in quanto persona più bassa mi sono offerta per infilarmi a staccare quello all'altra estremità del passaggio.
Avevo appena finito ed è suonato il citofono per la consegna di alcune scatole di simil-marmellate (di fuori, sotto il sole, e a due piani di scale da dove ero).
Sono tornata da mia madre e ho visto che avevano appena scollegato il terzo aggeggio, e non stavano riuscendo ad aprire l'altra estremità del passaggio, mi sono offerta per infilarmi anche di lì.
Sono arrivata in fondo e ho trovato un mostro gigante¹ che difendeva la spina.
Sono riuscita a distrarre il mostro, staccare la spina, scappare, ma non senza essere toccata dalle secrezioni del suddetto mostro.
Stasera nel letto abbiamo le lenzuola pulite.
Posso farmi una seconda doccia subito prima di dormire, anche se oggi ne ho già fatta una e di solito cerco di evitare, vero?
¹ potrebbe essere stato un ragnetto piccolino con le gambe lunghe e sottili.

@valhalla è perchè i quattro "così" non sono stati disattivati nell'ordine giusto, ma era una missione che potevi sbagliare e fallire. Bisogna sempre salvare prima di una missione impegnativa

le centraline di vecchi velux che sono stati sostituiti (e avrebbero dovuto essere staccate da chi li ha sostituiti, e invece a quanto pare no)

@valhalla I got the reference to the Jeffrey's tube, but what actually are those things in a house/building... with more than 2 floors? Your mother and you live in the same building? Is this attic on the roof?

@mdione my mother and I live in the same building, in different flats one over the other, and then there is an additional floor of stairs because our area is horizontally challenged :D (our flat is ground level on one side, and first floor on the other, and then there is an additional ramp outdoors, maybe half a floor high, to get down to where delivery people leave stuff)
her flat is in an attic, and the areas where the roof / ceiling is lower than human height are closed off as storage, and are as convenient to go through as a Jefferies tubes..
The devices are the trasformers and electronics of the old roof-mounted windows, which have just been changed, and were supposed to have been disconnected since the new ones use a different system.
We still haven't opened up the box, we assume that the noise came from some failed component, maybe some bursting capacitor? I believe that all of the moving parts were on the windows, and those have been removed
