Reason being it's less likely to be confused with the Kernel Virtual Machine in typical sysadmin parlance and it can be thought of as an IPMI without an IP
The corollary of this is that any sort of device that gives you a remote MI is an IPMI regardless of whether it's integrated into the system or not. -
