Today, getting my blood drawn, the secretary asks for my ID. I give her my German ID card.
Secretary: Were you born in Germany or...?
Me: The USA
Secretary: But this is a German ID.
Me: Yes, I'm German but was born in the USA.
The phlebotomist, later: What are you doing in France?!
Me: Studying law.
The phlebotomist: Very good. -

A friend of mine is born in Quito, Ecuador.
Later she took a driving license in California, while visiting a sister.
Then she came here to visit another sister (a wide range family!), found the love and stopped here.
She had to do things at the hosptal, a secretary asked for her ID, and she gave her the Californian driving license.
The secretary look at it and say "California? Good, you are not a non-EU citizen"

@GustavinoBevilacqua i have a danish driver's license, which italian police officers tell me is not valid identification when a police officer asks you for your ID (because you can't prove citizenship). quite annoying.
