I thought I’d take a little time to summarise what my life without Amazon has been like. (Yes, I know some of you are supremely virtuous and have never used it in your life - but I am not you).
I am in Spain, not in a major urban centre so, links are for the Iberian peninsula.
My main purchases used to be Asian cooking products and I have found two wonderful alternatives:
1. https://www.orientalmarket.es/shop/
(they sell some fresh veg too - 24hr shipping) -
2. https://www.onesupermarket.es/en
Their site is also in English. They take a little longer to ship, but have some of the more obscure ingredients.

My biggest struggle has been to find alternative suppliers for some of the most obscure sewing stuff I need. It’s almost impossible to find 100% good quality cotton thread in Spain. It’s almost all polyester - which is not good for kimono or yukata (it should be the seams that rip, not the material, so you need more fragile thread). While Gutermman does make a huge selection of cotton thread, it’s not for sale in shops here.
But this little place up in Vigo, stocks it

@valhalla Hehehe. You have something special! Celebrate it!
It is actually the strength of the polyester Gutermann that’s a problem for me. Ironically, for yukatas and kimono, you really do not want a very strong thread. You don’t even want a particularly strong seam. That’s why hand-sewing is always preferable. The point is to be able to take the garment apart fairly easily, without it ever damaging the fabric itself. A seam can always be resewn. Once the fabric rips, it’s weakened forever.
