@sdm AFAIK this isn't as much a conspiracy theory as a hypothesis about one of the potential factors in the increase in crime up to 80s and the sharp decline afterwards.
The Wikipedia page seems to confirm that our current understanding is that this was indeed one of the factors, very likely.
