I think #Canada
must change the name of its currency.
My suggestions:
-
@GustavinoBevilacqua A dollar is already called a "loonie", from the loon on the back. So we already have an alternate!

In Italian the loon is called "strolaga", but I don't know the origin of the name.

Canada, and Canadian mining corporations, is a leading producer of gold.
I would *love* if the country would would return to a gold standard currency. We are one of the very few who could likely keep it working. Unlikely, and potentially dangerous.
OTOH, Gold Maple Leaf (GML) bullion coin and other bullion products from the Canadian Mint already exist and are widely traded. You can even buy/sell on markets (ETR) while it never leaves the vault.

@GustavinoBevilacqua How about returning to its beginning, thaler.

*solidus* ftw!

@GustavinoBevilacqua Strolaga cioè astrologa? https://www.treccani.it/vocabolario/strolaga/
-
Non lo so!

@GustavinoBevilacqua io ho sempre pensato che l'etimologia fosse quella, ma sul perché (somiglianza della livrea con un vestito da maga? o semplice assonanza come suggerisce la treccani? boh) non lo so nemmeno io
