About to head to the hospital for surgery: if you don't hear from me in a while, avenge me fedi!

Nurse offered me a menu… there’s an app for ordering food, I told her “it’s like Uber eats for hospital”
Anyway , let’s see how a sandwich and some fruit salad go… was advised to order early as “it could take a little while” -
Forgot my phone earbuds… they’re still sitting in the handlebar bag of my bike.
This is not a useful location for them.

Lunch, that came quicker than I was warned.
The build-your-own sandwich option is goodness -
So “we knew the lump was big, we didn’t know it was /that/ big”… there’s a drain pulling muck and goo out of my abdomen, they’re gonna keep me in hospital for a couple of days till they can remove the drain… I’m glad I brought my phone charger.

Orderly came in “I’m just going to pinch your pole (thing they hang drip bags etc from), since you don’t have anything on it.”
Me: *flutters hand* “oh sure, feel free to do thievery as needed.”
Orderly: *percussively argues with pole for a few seconds* “I think it might have an anti-thievery device.”
Me: “hit it harder.”
*bed shakes*
Orderly: “ok, got it.”

Oh ho, I have discovered the ‘cake and snacks’ section of the food delivery app.

Dinner: vege curry and rice, with fruit cake and custard for dessert, plus a lamington for later

Breakfast: cereal with yoghurt, some toast with jam, and an apple to munch on later.

Apparently morning tea ‘elevenses’ here finishes at eleven… heathens

“I’m just going to get you a new handbag” - the nurse before changing my drain bag full of eww.

Dinner: macaroni and cheese, with a side of veges and salad, apple crumble and custard for dessert, and a lamington for a snack later.

About three o’clock this morning:
Nurse: “why are you awake? You should be resting.”
Me: “I am resting, I’m just not asleep.”
Nurse: “well, take what we can get I suppose.”
Also, according to the morning shift change this drain should be removed from me today, and I may even be discharged from the hospital… we’ll see.

Breakfast: this was listed as ‘vegetarian big breakfast’ and was quite tasty, vege frittas with a hash brown and grilled tomato, to which I added a slice of toast and some orange juice. Plus I have an apple for later.

Having a tube pulled out of your belly is the weirdest feeling

I am out of the hospital.
The Uber driver has so far driven over the kerb twice, stopped in the middle of an intersection once, and also managed to rock the car so hard I banged my head on the roof.

Can't ride my bike for at least 4 weeks, can't work for at least 6... but I'm recovering so yey.
