Relatedly, we debated this internally about #FOSSY 2025 at #SFC because coming to the USA is a difficult issue rn.

We concluded to go ahead w/ the conference & note that it was really for folks already in the USA (since entering the USA is dangerous for many folks), & announce it would move to Vancouver, BC, .CA for 2026.

(It helped that #FOSSY was in Oregon which is a safer state per:

@purplerabbit Most #FOSS events have done a terrible job in this regard: they often denounce the regime's policies where they host the event but then still have the event there.

The difficulty in navigating the USA in the middle of this Civil Cold War is ∄ uniformity…∴ @ErinInTheMorn's map is so useful.

I agree allies should also avoid regimes where the risk level is too high for trans ppl. That's why I'm asking if Erin might include that in analysis in future.

I'm not even an amateur linguist, but I wonder if it's that capitalized nouns help w/ following German word order in writing.
e.g.:

Ich habe mein Handy verloren. (I lost my mobile device.),

IMO, it helps to see the object jumping up there capitalized in the middle. I dunno, it always helps me as an intermediate German speaker.

What always fascinates me is how English lost its ſ & German kept its ß.

ſ stuck around until mid-1800s!

It occasionally bugs me that absolutely no one is working on the YEAR 9999 problem.
Meanwhile, I once had a t-shirt that said on the front:
“Linux: Y2K compliance since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z”
on the back it read:
“… just don't ask me about 2038!”

… at least many folks are working on that one. Which is kinda too bad as I thought it'd be my retirement job to work on it, but it'll probably be fully solved by 2036.

(I have the shirt but it's almost illegible now.)

Frankly, this does not need context for anyone who “gets” #FOSS to see what this is about:

In true FOSS communities like @debian , everyone pitches. The person running the camera, or serving the food, or cleaning the kitchen may well be the developer who packaged or even wrote your favorite program.
