@steffo iirc I couldn't use those because whatever function I was using didn't accept references, it wanted the actual thing. and it modified it, and didn't return it I think?

Here's a new video with a bigger profile picture and all 6 modes except unavailable. I think it includes every single state transition, a couple times over... and you get a much better idea of what my idea for "available" looks like!
The shape for Available was originally going to be with 12 points but it looks more distinct (esp. at smaller sizes) with 9. Also Available (chat) is blue because of VRChat, which has a blue "Join Me" mode to allow any of your friends to join you, auto-accepting invite requests.

Strangely, it looks like half the drive is empty, never written to. All zeros.
So it's gone gone, I bet. -

I'm running hexedit on the drive from a live USB.postato in Uncategorized
I'm running hexedit on the drive from a live USB. Searching for a known unique string: "Über Spades" (About Spades, in the German translation). I know this string to be present among the data I'm looking for because it's in a screenshot I posted here.
I think it's halfway through the drive -- seems further than Grep got, which kept getting killed some part way through. Hasn't found it yet. I do expect it to be towards the end somewhere, if it's even there.

Putting out the call: I'm looking for some software that would let me recover files and folders from an overwritten BTRFS partition. I need to select a certain folder and recover as much of it as possible. (It's the lost Spades source code.) I'm pretty desperate to get it back. Boosts encouraged.
