Strangely, it looks like half the drive is empty, never written to. All zeros.
So it's gone gone, I bet.

I'm running hexedit on the drive from a live USB.
I'm running hexedit on the drive from a live USB. Searching for a known unique string: "Über Spades" (About Spades, in the German translation). I know this string to be present among the data I'm looking for because it's in a screenshot I posted here.
I think it's halfway through the drive -- seems further than Grep got, which kept getting killed some part way through. Hasn't found it yet. I do expect it to be towards the end somewhere, if it's even there.

Putting out the call: I'm looking for some software that would let me recover files and folders from an overwritten BTRFS partition.
Putting out the call: I'm looking for some software that would let me recover files and folders from an overwritten BTRFS partition. I need to select a certain folder and recover as much of it as possible. (It's the lost Spades source code.) I'm pretty desperate to get it back. Boosts encouraged.

RE: been having to use youtube's stock web interface for a couple days and oh my god it sucks so bad

RE: I can't seem to record this fucking presentation!
@steffo deadlock sounds like the perfect word to describe it, it completely locked up and wouldn't do anything else but occasionally try again and log the failure (and I could only see the last part).
I saw that it wasn't really doing anything so I force-shutdown'd it. I'm going to have to figure something else out to record my presentation, because apparently my system can't do it... -
RE: I can't seem to record this fucking presentation!
@steffo I mean maybe... Hope not, I kinda need that...

RE: I can't seem to record this fucking presentation!
@steffo you wouldn't happen to know what a RAM failure looks like by any chance, would you?
-
RE: I can't seem to record this fucking presentation!
@steffo This happened while I was shutting down. Before this a bunch of shit was crashing and freezing and not dying and I don't know what I did other than install pipewire so I could record my screen
edit: and it has timestamps on each line and it is changing a little bit from time to time, which is not kernel panic behavior but something's definitely super broken -
RE: I can't seem to record this fucking presentation!
I think I've fucked up really bad

I can't seem to record this fucking presentation!
I can't seem to record this fucking presentation! I recorded it earlier with OBS and then played it back and it was choppy all the way through! What gives?!

RE: seems like Zen Browser breaks Stylus in some way, the edit button opens a blank window
@steffo Compact mode still leaves the insets, and it doesn't trigger automatically when a page goes fullscreen.

RE: seems like Zen Browser breaks Stylus in some way, the edit button opens a blank window
@steffo "edit"?
fwiw on my end none of the buttons break... but then, I haven't updated the browser in a while
(the problem I have with Zen is that it doesn't respect fullscreen; the bars and [also unwanted] insets stay)
