On International Mother Language Day, we celebrate the rich linguistic and cultural diversity that defines our Union, as well as the importance of protecting and promoting mother tongues across Europe.
The EU is home to:

60 regional or minority languages spoken by 40 million people
Multilingualism is a founding principle of our Union and part of what makes our continent so vibrant.
This diversity is our strength.
We want a more inclusive Europe.

Every journey in Europe should be a safe one 
In 2024, 19,940 people lost their lives in road crashes across the EU, a 2% drop compared to 2023.
We are not yet where we want to be, but it shows that we are moving in the right direction: Towards our Vision Zero goal of halving road deaths and serious injuries by 2030 and getting close to zero by 2050.
At 45 deaths per million inhabitants, EU roads still remain among the safest in the world.

We are restricting the use of PFAS chemicals in firefighting foams.
These ‘forever chemicals' do not break down naturally, posing unacceptable risk to human health and the environment.

Sasha was only 11 when he was abducted by Russia after bombs tore through his neighbourhood in Mariupol.
With the strength of his grandmother, Liudmyla, he found his way back home.
Lieutenant Paisios led a team of twenty Greek rangers who answered Spain’s call for help against devastating wildfires in Asturias.
They battled day and night, and saved the village of Genestoso.

🕯On 2 August 1944, around 4,300 Roma and Sinti were murdered in Auschwitz-Birkenau, ending of the so-called ‘Gypsy family camp’.
This was part of the Roma Holocaust, which took over 500,000 lives.
Today we honour the memory of victims & stand against prejudice of Romani people.
With the Council of Europe, we're working to bring Roma Holocaust history in school curricula across Europe, so young people can grow up embracing inclusion.

Sustainability isn't an option. It’s a necessity!
Eurostat’s new report shows strong progress in access to quality education, decent work, and reducing inequalities.
There are also steps forward on gender equality, innovation, sustainable industry, and food systems.
But challenges remain: ocean protection needs strengthening and there are setbacks in clean water, forests, and biodiversity.
More work is needed but we are committed to reaching our 2030 goals!

Time to choose a healthier lifestyle!
Every year, 700,000 people in the EU lose their lives because of tobacco consumption. It is the leading cause of preventable cancer in Europe.
Here’s what we’re doing in the EU to promote healthier lifestyles:
Creating smoke-free environments
Regulating packaging, labelling & ingredients of tobacco products
Restricting advertising
Investing €96 m in research & addiction prevention
Our goal: a tobacco-free generation by 2040!
EU is getting closer to hitting 2030 climate and energy targets!
Thanks to stronger action across Member States, by 2030 we are now on track to:
Cut net greenhouse gas emissions by 55% Reach at least 42.5% renewable energy
We’re committed to continuing the clean energy transition while prioritising industrial competitiveness and social fairness.
We will keep working together with the Member States to close the remaining gaps.
Love comes in every color 
On #IDAHOT, we are standing strong with the LGBTIQ+ communities, amplifying their voices, and recommitting to a world where love is celebrated in all its forms.
That’s why we are working on the LGBTIQ Equality Strategy post-2025, set to be published by the end of the year.
This strategy will tackle discrimination and hatred based on:
sexual orientation gender identity sex characteristics
