The closing narration of The Twilight Zone, episode 153: The Brain Center at Whipple's.postato in Uncategorized
The closing narration of The Twilight Zone, episode 153: The Brain Center at Whipple's.
"There are many bromides applicable here: 'too much of a good thing', 'tiger by the tail', 'as you sow so shall you reap'. The point is that, too often, Man becomes clever instead of becoming wise; he becomes inventive and not thoughtful; and sometimes, as in the case of Mr. Whipple, he can create himself right out of existence. As in tonight's tale of oddness and obsolescence, in the Twilight Zone."

It's my birthday today ^____^!
The day started off with pancakes(my parents sent me a can of maple syrup from home by mail), then I saw an effing glorious double rainbow outside(!!!), then went to kick Devine's butt at squash... and tonight's plan is to have homemade pizza and play games.
Most perf.

A follow up to this post by Devine, about Chimi, a regular feline visitor:postato in Uncategorized
A follow up to this post by Devine, about Chimi, a regular feline visitor:
https://merveilles.town/@neauoire/115650977592036545SOOO, kind of a funny coincidence, but I met Chimi's owner today, B, while doing laundry! Up until now neither Dev or I knew who the cat belonged to.
B's boat is on our dock and she told me today that Chimi is a bit of a wild one. He likes to wander. She said she adopted Chimi while in the Mariana Islands, prior to sailing to Japan. SO it turns he's a South Pacific kitty!
So I have to ask B, but I'm pretty sure the name is Japanese to mean "mountain demon", which is SOOO damn fitting...!
Also, apparently, I had brieftly corresponded with B by email a little while ago because she'd seen the Sailing in Japan wiki entry on our website :)!! She said our page was most useful
What a small, small world...

@ccohanlon Ya. Aside from books, we don't have a lot of "fun stuff", the tools, spares, and materials we have to keep Pino shipshape account for much of the weight :/...

@ccohanlon Yessss! Ive seen this. Its one of Dev and mine's favorite sailboat videos :)...
Pino's factory weight is 4,400 kg but now weighs about 7,500 kg when full of food/fuel/water/all of our stuff. The waterline is pretty low when fully-laden.

@ccohanlon There's a part of me that wants to do that too, but Dev & I don't have your experience sailing that way and very much fear the idea (although we did manage when we had a total break down 2 summers ago, but it was a bit stressful).
And I totally agree with you on the cockpit thing, we'd like something smaller, along the lines of Nick Skeates's Wylo II. Although, as it stands now Pino is WAY too heavy and had we more storage we couldnt handle more stores >_> (if we didnt have that heavy engine tho...)

@ccohanlon I feel this so damn hard. I've been patching our old engine for the past couple of years, every year. There is *always* something happening with it, and honestly, it makes me crazy anxious...
Hope you can sort it out. -

On the upside, i now have a pretty good understanding of how the pump works and how it can fail XD....

Every year, thus far, there's an issue with our marine diesel engine that I have to troubleshoot.postato in Uncategorized
Every year, thus far, there's an issue with our marine diesel engine that I have to troubleshoot. This year's issue was a raw water pump leak, but not just any kind, water was coming out of the weeping hole, indicating that the pump shaft seal was bad.
Getting the shaft out of the body of the pump was effing hard, I had to borrow tools to do it. After prying it apart, I thought that I could just take the seal out and replace it and that'd be it, but then I saw that the shaft was kinda scarred, and one of the bearings looked like shit >_>... aaaand I somehow broke a circlip and now 1/2 of it is stuck in the body of the pump(improvised a tool to get it out, that was a BAD idea...).
I was not expecting to have to rebuild this damn thing. Never. Effing. Easy.

Made this case yesterday for the steam iron :>... using stray bits of Sunbrella(teal and black) and vinyl(topside). I also harvested the zipper from a bag of basmati rice.
My stack of scraps is getting thinner, but it's nice to still have so many little bits to make projects with ^^ (although ive pretty much run out of the black material).
