We have a well-worn saying we haul out at #restaurants in a certain situation, and it's invariably proved right.
You arrive and notice that you are near an annoying group (ie one loud-talker who dominates their table, talking over everyone else). They've often finished their meal, even paid their bill and we look at each other and say "they're still going to be here when we leave, aren't they."

Amazing how often it's true. You spend the whole time hoping there will be a bit of time without them, but nope.
It always pays to swap tables right away if you notice. It never turns out to be less annoying than you initially think.
Sometimes it's just easier to go to a different restaurant if the seating options are limited. A little inconvenience, but if you have a more enjoyable meal, it's worth it.

I say the waiter I have hearing problems and the buzz of the crowd disturb me, so I like a quiet table, if possible.
