Its bug-eating ways finally confirmed at long last using a radioactive tracer in the bugs, followed into the plant cells. Nice technique.
Charles Darwin has finally been proven right about bug-eating plant after 150 years | CBC Radio
Scientists have finally proven what Charles Darwin suspected more than a century ago — that a small, innocent-looking flowering plant is, in fact, a stone-cold killer.

Hmm, what if there were a carnivorous plant that was edible for humans – would vegans/vegetarians feel comfortable about eating it? A loophole!
-
@ottaross i don't understand why that would be a loophole. Does being carnivorous make the plant sentient?

@labrezza depends if sentience is a threshold or a spectrum. Perhaps. But one could see it as eating an animal by proxy.

@ottaross if we look at it closely, even eating a regular, non-carnivorous plant is probably responsible for the killing of many animals through pesticides and similar practices.
Being vegan or vegetarian is not about being morally perfect, it is about doing the bare minimum to not be responsible for the torture and death of millions of individuals. It's not perfect, it's just the first step.
I doubt the carnivorous plant will even be in someone's plate, but whether that's ok for vegetarians to eat it or not is beyond the point in my opinion.
Eating an animal like a cow kills WAY more plants than I could ever eat in a day, so you see, it's about choosing to minimise exploitation and torture of other beings' bodies.
