Those prices seem totally absurd to us, even in Monte Carlo!
Here is one of our weekly markets, photo made in October 2023.
I'm tempted to buy a sail boat and become a cheese smuggler…

That looks cheap ... I have no idea about cheese makers and prices ... Hugz

Now In Piedmont I can find artisanal cheese directly from producers for 8 €/kg, sometimes less.
The same is 15 €/kg at supermarket prices (but they are near the beach).
Here is why 3 or 4 times a year I drive North 150 km to make a stash (cheese like Fontina can be frozen).

@GustavinoBevilacqua @MelissaBearTrix yeh, look the price Mel has posted are fancy prices.
I probably pay about what you pay at the Queen Victoria Market, for Aussie cheese, converted for Aussie dollars.
yeh, I might pay $30/kg for gruyère, but that's traveled from Europe

@MelissaBearTrix @GustavinoBevilacqua either way, that end of Sydney is pretty fancy.
If I went to the cheese shop in Prahan it'd be similar prices

I would have to consult my cheese expert ... I can't pronounce half the names ... Giggles

@MelissaBearTrix @GustavinoBevilacqua *raises eyebrow* so you have Brillat-Savarin on staff?
(side note, eat it, it's the best cheese!)

Not as staff ... Just friends
I think I would love that cheese ... Hugz
