@valhalla there wasn't a wolf in the end, probably because they are extinct here. But there was a gingerbread house with a kindly old woman waving from the doorway. She offered free sweets if I come inside but I'm sticking with my diet until the end of the month so I politely declined

Walking through a misty wood on my way to deliver baked goods to my sick mother.
If I go missing the big bad wolf may be the prime suspect.

Here's something to brighten up everyone's timeline.postato in Uncategorized
Here's something to brighten up everyone's timeline. Yesterday she who is my girlfriend and I went to the pen museum in Birmingham.
Fun fact: back in the day 75% of all pen nibs were made in this city

It was a fun experience where you got to make your own nib on Victorian machines (under supervision) and got a free antique nib.
Pictures of my nib will be forthcoming as I left mine at my swimgf's place.

RE: My most controversial opinion that nobody cares about:postato in Uncategorized
@valhalla personally I am of the opinion* that if the silver content of the coinage hadn't been reduced then Rome would have generally suffered economically, reducing tax revenue, leading to increased taxation to pay the legions, leading to greater unrest, leading to greater concentration of wealth and power in the legions and precipitating something like the crisis of the third century sooner. (4/4)
*And it is just an opinion

RE: My most controversial opinion that nobody cares about:postato in Uncategorized
@valhalla expand it's silver supply either by conquest (after Trajan this wouldn't have helped as all the silver rich nations were defeated), or by increasing mining (expensive and requiring slaves that are gaining via conquest).
Thus what my theory presupposes is, maybe by slowly debasing the coinage they delayed an economic crisis by preventing deflation where people saw the silver coins as more valuable and became less willing to spend them and more likely to hoard them. (3/4)

RE: My most controversial opinion that nobody cares about:postato in Uncategorized
@valhalla was flourishing with minimal barriers and generally the empire experienced economic growth, population growth and a standard of living some have compared to the early industrial revolution in north Europe. This generally comes along with an inflationary pressure. I mean just the fact of having more people means you need more coins or else each person would have less on average.
So, if Rome didn't slowly reduce the silver content of the coinage then Rome would have been forced to (2/?)

RE: My most controversial opinion that nobody cares about:postato in Uncategorized
@valhalla ok, so this is complicated but basically for Rome there were basically 2 ways to increase their silver supply, conquest and mining. Now I know what you are thinking what about trade? Well Rome suffered from the same issue with India as Europe did with China in the 19th century, that is that they imported a lot but primarily only because the other nations wanted their silver. So trade was a net drain on the silver supply.
Now, under the Pax Romana internal trade (1/?)

My most controversial opinion that nobody cares about:
The debasement of the currency that occurred under Rome's imperial period was a good thing actually. At least up until the Severan dynasty, perhaps up until the reign of Caracalla.

@minnfinn well the most important thing that happened today is I found conkers.
Which leads me to wonder, does anyone play conkers outside of the UK?

I've had such a good day so far. So many people in costume and they all look so good. I hope my sewing skills stack up.
Very tired from travelling and walking around Bath already. But I'm looking forward to the festival proper.

As prime minister he fought to the point that he basically collapsed whilst speaking in parliament in favour of what would be the foundation of our modern democracy.
After achieving this and winning a landslide election he did not rest. Just one year later he passed the Slavery Abolition Act that ended slavery in the empire.
So, top bloke basically.

I'm about to have a cup of tea earl grey hot in my pride Starfleet mug and it occurs to me that most people today don't know what a great guy Earl Grey, after whom the tea is named, was.
He was a member of the house of lords during the time of the Napoleonic war and in that time of anti revolution campaigned tirelessly to reform British election to break the power of the aristocrats and give the middle class a vote.

So here is the project that I finished about a week ago but I'm only just now taking photos. It's basically a robe to wear around the house when it's too hot for a normal dressing gown. Or, if I just want to be fancy.
It's a floor length Italian viscose robe based on a medieval kirtle, or as my mom called it, a wizard robe. I plan of making a tablet woven belt to close it at the waist but for now I'm happy to have it swoop dramatically as I walk.
WW2 air warden helmet for scale.

@valhalla thank you for declaring your bias. I will take it under advisement during this consultation period.
And also use you to make a tape to finish the neckline.

So the airport is having a charity run down the runway at the end of November. (The runway will be closed I checked). The thing is the event is 80's themed, so what I'm thinking, is I turn up in a bustle dress and say "oh, 1980's!"
It would be an excuse to actually make a bustle, but also, even though back to the future 3 was released in 1990 it's set in 1985 and 1885 so it could also be an excuse to make the back to the future "western" dress with the atom embroidery that I was planning.
